Fox & Bear Studio is owned by Anneliese Bates, Originally of a retail background, Anneliese retrained in Mixed media art, and ran workshops for about 5 years teaching techniques and projects & working freelance for various crafting magazines.
After that she worked at a Furniture recycling charity, and whilst she was there she completed an interior design course giving her more insight to the furniture and interiors trades. It was at the charity that she fine tuned the art of painting furniture, after a couple of years she decided that she could combine her love of mixed media art with that of furniture painting and thus, Fox & Bear Studio was born.
why Fox & Bear Studio ? this has to be one of the most common questions raised …. It was a name that Anneliese devised through her love of her Japanese Shiba Inu dogs …
Tarka her older dog is the ‘Fox’ and the other one is Little Bear. Have a look at the picture & you’ll see why.
Fox & Bear Studio Ltd is based in the small market town of Ashbourne in the heart of the peak district. The studio is actually a warehouse and is better known to the staff and family as the Den. Here’s where all the creative magic takes place, there is much coffee and tea drinking whilst the brainstorming and general messy work is done,
There is of course our stock room and despatch Headquarters based here too. Tarka & Bear like to come along to ‘help’ out and can very often be found basking in the sunshine whilst the warehouse revolves around them.
